AN eight-year-old boy from Whitley Bay, who was diagnosed with diabetes earlier this year, will be taking part in his very first sponsored bike ride to raise money for Diabetes UK.
Charlie Pearson, who attends Marine Park First School in the town, has signed up for the Durham Big Ride which is taking place on Sunday, September 21.

Charlie and his mum Louise will be completing the three mile version of the route to raise funds for Diabetes UK by way of thanks for the practical help the charity has provided for Charlie and his family since his diagnosis in January this year.

"I am really looking forward to taking part in the Durham Big Ride and I have been practising with my mum," said Charlie.

"I want to raise money for Diabetes UK because they have been very helpful since I was diagnosed. I went to a Family Day in Darlington and
I met lots of other people who have diabetes too which was really interesting."

There are still places available for the Durham Big Ride, with routes
of three, ten or 25 miles available.

Anyone who wants to find out more about taking part for Diabetes UK Northern and Yorkshire should contact the regional office on (01325) 488606 or northyorks@diabetes.org.uk
